Go Fishing With A Parachute They Are Not Just For Sky Diving
When they are in the water they are known as a sea anchor, even though it is a water parachute. The purpose of a sea anchor is to hold the boat into the seas, prevent the boat from capsizing and to slow your drift. Whether swordfishing offshore or sailfishing along the edge, the sea anchor can be a great asset. Between the current and wind it enables one to slow their drift and stay longer in the best areas. We can have the kite or kites out the back with bottom and flat lines out the side. Using clips like an outrigger you can fish multiple lines on each kite line and have a great spread. There is a trip line on the sea anchor which should remain attached to the boat at all times, allowing the collapsing of the sea anchor when you retrieve it. It is almost impossible to retrieve the sea anchor while it is completely open.
A word of caution, when deploying, always drop the sea anchor down into the water, never throw it out where it may catch air and open and create havoc in the boat. The most popular sizes for fishing are 9, 12 and 15ft models. Para-Tech is one of the most popular manufactures of the sea anchors mentioned, specially constructed to handle the marine environment. Please do not try to use an actual parachute, it most likely will not work. Stop in today and talk to our ship store specialists about the right sea anchor for you.
