Mechanical Tips
By The Caribee Team
- Charge your batteries and make sure they have the proper amount of distilled water.
- Keep up with 100hr services and change engine water pump annually.
- Install new fuel water separator every three months.
- Check bilge pumps manually and in auto float position to assure yourself peace of mind.
- Check all safety gear, fire extinguisher, life jackets, throw cushion, flares, and horn. Make sure all items are up to date.
Be safe. Be prepared.
- Trailer maintenance should take place on a seasonal basis, for example the bearings should be removed and repacked to prevent rusting. Tire pressure should be checked quarterly to insure proper wear on tires and spray bolts and nuts with lubricant for corrosion protection.
- It is important to properly store your motor for any seasonal lay-up, that being an extended period in which your boat & motor will not be used. Fuel will varnish injectors and carburetors causing costly repairs when you return.
- To prevent harmful deposits in your fuel system and combustion chambers use Mercury's Quickkleen in your fuel tank on a regular basis.
- Lately we have seen more related failures due to not FLUSHING motors. It is important on all motors, but especially true on our new Four Strokes. It's simple so why not take the time to protect your investment, you will be glad you did!
- The boating season is now upon us and that kicks our service department into its busiest time. So, don't wail until the last minute to schedule your annual maintenance. We may have a waiting list for both maintenance and emergency service. Please call to schedule early and we can then make the time to do your job right.
- Remember when checking the oil in your 4 stroke to make sure the motor is trimmed to a level position (straight up and down) so you get an accurate oil reading.
- Remove propeller and inspect the propeller shaft for fishing line. Line collected between the propeller and the gear case can damage the prop shaft seals causing gear lube to leak and water intrusion. Don't forget to grease the prop shaft before reinstalling the propeller.
- Change your fuel water separator filter at least every three months even if you are not using your boat frequently. Water collected in the filter will rust the bottom out causing a fuel leak.
