The History of Yamaha Corporation
Ginichi Kawakami, after graduating in 1934 from Takachiho Higher Commercial School, joined Nippon Gakki Company, presently Yamaha Corp. He rose to the position of manager of the company’s musical instrument division, becoming President in 1950 at the age of 38. In 1953 he took advantage of idle machine equipment, that previously produced airplane propellers, and after exploring many products, he finally settled on the production of motorcycles.

Kawakami's history was long and rich. He saw the new corporate headquarters in Cypress, California and the 25th anniversary of Yamaha becoming a reality in 1980. He watched bike #20 million roll off the assembly line in 1982. Ginichi passed away in 2002 yet his vision lives on through the people and products of Yamaha, throughout the world.
Today celebrating 20 years of award winning technology, Yamaha outboards are rugged, reliable, powerful and offer unparalleled quality. With engines ranging from 2 HP to 350 HP, with 2-stroke, 2-stroke HPDI and 4-stroke technology, these engines are quiet and efficient.
